Do-It-Yourself Gate Measurement
Finding the appropriate measurements for your new gate may seem daunting, but the process is quite simple. The first step is to take the overall width of your opening/gate and add exactly 13” to the length of your gate.
For example: if you are ordering a 16’ wide gate, all you have to do is add 13” to the width to find out how far apart you have to place your piles. In this particular example, it would be 17’1” centre to centre of your concrete piles.
Pilings should be 8’ to 10’ feet deep with a 12” diameter. Depending on soil conditions, they should be reinforced with two lengths of 10-15mm rebar. The rebar must be centered within the piling. Pile caps need to be 14” x 14” and 10 inches deep in order for your gate to be properly installed. Piles need to be in line with each other and level, and should also be level and parallel with your driveway.
Group pilings are also a quicker and more professional option. Please call for details.
Once you have received your gate, you will need a concrete hammer drill to fasten the gate to your already poured and set concrete piles.
